At King George V, inclusion is at the heart of who we are and how we work. Our values of Curiosity, Resilience, Ambition, Kindness and Pride shape the way we support every child to belong, participate and succeed. We are ambitious for all pupils and believe that difference should never mean lower expectations or reduced opportunity. Our Inclusion First approach means that we plan for access from the outset. Through inclusive and adaptive teaching, ordinarily available provision, visual and communication supports, sensory and regulation strategies, carefully planned interventions and individualised support where needed, we work to remove barriers before they become barriers to learning. This can look different for different children. Some pupils may benefit from visual timetables, Now and Next boards, Aided Language Displays, adapted recording, sensory resources or additional communication support. Others may access targeted interventions, Learning Plans, specialist advice, our Sea Breeze regulation space, The Nest or more personalised provision. Whatever the level of need, children remain valued members of their class and our wider school community. Inclusion at KGV extends beyond the classroom. We want pupils with SEND to take part fully in trips, clubs, swimming, assemblies, playtimes, transition activities and the wider life of the school. We work closely with children, families, teachers, support staff and external professionals so that support is responsive, purposeful and reviewed over time. Above all, we want every child to feel known, valued and understood, to develop increasing independence and confidence, and to be proud of who they are and what they can achieve.

Mrs L. Brennan – Co-Deputy Headteacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

At King George V, Mrs Brennan leads and coordinates provision for pupils with SEND. She works closely with children, families, teachers and external professionals to identify barriers, plan appropriate support and review the impact of provision. She also supports staff to develop inclusive and adaptive classroom practice across the school.

If you have concerns about your child's learning, communication, development, sensory or physical needs, emotional wellbeing or access to school life, your child's class teacher will usually be your first point of contact. Mrs Brennan is also available to support families where further discussion or SENDCo involvement is needed.
